We are a charity established in 2021, with a focus on improving people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Our story starts with another charity, Outside the Box Development Support Ltd. Outside the Box had run projects in Falkirk and surrounding areas since 2015. The projects were varied, but most involved peer support in some form. In 2021 it was decided that the projects in Falkirk were distinct from the rest of the work of Outside the Box and that it would be best for them to become part of a brand new charity, run by local people, with lived experience of mental ill health, either their own or a loved one’s. And that’s how Central Wellbeing SCIO was born.
We were constituted in October 2021 and have been running alongisde Outside the Box since then.
Our aim is to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing and we run community projects to achieve these aim. Everything we do is true to our values:
We see everyone as a whole person, with valid experiences, talents and their own way of living
We recognise that lived experience is valuable learning and we use it in everything we do
We support people to help each other
We offer people choice as everyone is different
We work with others and promote looking after mental wellbeing as a need for everyone
Our Board is made up of people living or working in Falkirk, with lived experience of poor mental health (or caring for someone with poor mental health).
